Our History

A former statewide organization existed prior to 2012, however funding cutbacks eliminated all support by the Natural Resources Conservation Service through large federal Farm Bill cuts. This funding reduction caused that prior organization to close along with several individual RC&D Councils across California. In mid-2023, five RC&D Councils remained active in the state of California through diversification in funding sources. These five Councils determined that it would be advantageous to share knowledge and opportunities for expansion through with a new statewide association. The five councils formed a new association, filed Articles of Incorporation with the State of California, and is proceeding to obtain 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization determination from the Internal Revenue Service. In the interim until 501(c)3 status is obtained, the California Resource Conservation and Development Councils Association is being fiscally sponsored by Ore-Cal Resource Conservation & Development Council, itself a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
